Thx for the reply, I started using mastery food and I think that a '~2x crit vs mastery' general rule will be a helpful way to look at itemization . I figured there would be a point where more crit wouldn't generate enough insanity to keep you in VF longer and mastery buffing the base damage of the dots and VB would have more value but had no idea how much. I was also wonfering about the level of haste / mastery needed to make SL viable with T20, I would assume something like 15-20% crit, 35-40% haste and high mastery (like 75%+) ?

Yes, that is the general idea. At current gear levels, I would suggest keeping crit a bit higher than 2x mastery, but you should play around with it and see what you like better. Mastery can be very strong on some encounters and you can always swap some items around.

I can't confidently answer any questions about SL. It's just too far away from the meta right now. My guess is that it would require unachievable amounts of haste and be very punishing in practice.
